Email from Gary Zahn to Ms. Wright and other owners
Ms. Wright,
Many of us who have been sitting back and reading these regurgitated accusations, innuendos and defamatory statements about the current board and their alleged incompetence or worse, profiteering, from maintaining and beautifying our building, are so very thankful you have finally publicly addressed these false claims to the community. I wish your response had been sent to all unit owners and not just the fraction of us on this email chain, who have been subjected, for years to the false flags, fake news and unfounded rumors of Mr. Roth and now the three other unit owners whose names sometime appear at the bottom of his emails.
To the casual reader, they would have had us believe that the infamous Best Roofing check, THAT WAS NEVER CASHED AND WAS RETURNED TO US, had been spent by the board at our expense. It has become clear, no explanation of the error will suffice this band of “pot-stirrers”. The president of the board, the management team of Castle and anyone else who has been peripherally accused in this vast alleged scheme has apologized, explained how the credit was misread as an invoice and proved the funds never left the account. We all agree, it was an error. No one on our board has ever been compensated to be a CPA. Maybe the direction of this authors of these repetitive worthless claims should channel their efforts to suggesting a CPA handle the checking account and not a volunteer neighbor.
As for your clear and concise explanation of the scope of work being done on our building and explaining, as you have done within our monthly board meeting, the difference between mandatory and necessary, it is clear from their latest follow-up email, they aren’t looking for your answers. They are looking to muddy waters and falsely believe the readers of these emails will believe the board is simply running amok with the cashbox and frivolously spending our money. Has no now realized the board members pay what we pay? Any assessment or maintenance increase is shared by them? Board members are not exempt from paying. They are not spending only OUR money, they are spending their money.
As for this new issue they want to hang their hat on with regard to repairing or replacing the Porte Cochere. Their new angle is to highlight the cost effectiveness of replacing only the most badly damaged panels, leaving the front of our building, the first thing we, and our guests, see patched like an old pair of jeans. We are not Century Village. We are Mystic. They love to get into the minutia of picking a single comment by a board member and exploiting it. This time, they refer to one of board members comparing our work to Tower 400. They throw facts, often unsubstantiated, as to why that sentence is untrue. The front of out building has a glass covered awning. It has grown discolored. It has broken panels. It is an antiquated system. Therefore, the prudent as well as aesthetically correct course of action, is REPLACEMENT. Not a band-aid approach.
The idea of looking at restoration or repair in its totality is not new or unique to this current board. Under the leadership of Ms. Mimoun a few years ago, she made a very intelligent and fiscally responsible decision as it pertained to the cracking and chipping of exterior balcony knee walls. Before Mr. Roth joined our community, Ms. Mimoun shared with the owners how cost prohibitive and wasteful it was to be repairing individual knee walls as they were needed. She suggested and initiated a comprehensive plan to have the entire building inspected see where we could effectively repair multiple problems simultaneously. There was a cost to the inspection and it seems clear, the authors of these emails would have found fault in that expense.
The board is charged with overseeing the entire building. It’s structural safety as well as its aesthetics. Fortunately, a plurality of unit owners have continued to elect the majority of the current board over those who would ask us to believe the untrue that the board is cavalier in spending our money and irresponsible in their management directions. I wonder if the authors of these emails wait for the OIL light to come on their car before changing the oil or wait until the car runs out of gas to refill. You can live by repairing only when broken and then be forced to pay whatever the charge is without options, or you can be proactive and plan and prepare to maximize cost savings and insure quality work and a building we are all proud to call home.
One last thing, Ms Wright, with all the monies Mr. Roth is allegedly trying to save us, how much has it cost the association in legal fees and Castle’s time to respond to his continual demands for documents and answers to questions he clearly knows the answers to?
